Highlights from tonight’s event on translated Arabic poetry (20th and 21st centuries) at the Keratsini Municipal Cultural Centre: Melina Merkouri, co-organised by the Municipal Library and the Society for Arts and Culture, and superbly coordinated by Alexandra Christakaki… The warm welcome and the response of the audience, who were encountering contemporary Arabic poetry for the first time were very moving. Selected poems from the collections Persa Koumoutsi has compiled and translated over the last eight years were read by the exceptional Mania Papadimitriou, whilst the event was addressed, amongst other municipal officials, Dr Manal Ali, Director of the Cultural Centre of the Egyptian Embassy.
