The Center of Greek and Arabic Literature and Culture (K.EL.A.L.P.) .) of CulturePolis continuing in 2021 the cycle of meetings with Greek and Arab writers has the pleasure to invite you to the 3rd meeting of poets under the title “Women in Greek and Arabic Poetry”, which will take place online under the auspices of the Secretariat General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 17 March 2021, time ).

Through the readings of the poems and discussion, we shall try to explore the common elements and special features in both poetic voices, concerning the subject. The event is coordinated by the director of K.EL.A.L.P. Ms Persa Koumoutsi, author and translator of Arabic literature.

The Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prof. John Chrysoulakis will address the event and the Greek poet and lyricist Ms Lina Nikolakopoulou will open the meeting.

The Center of Greek and Arabic Literature and Culture (K.EL.A.L.P.) of CulturePolis continuing in 2021 the cycle of meetings with Greek and Arab writers has the pleasure to invite you to the 2nd meeting of poets under the title “From another place”, which will take place online on 29 January 2021, time 18:30 (Greek time).

The participants are Greek and Arab poets of the Diaspora, poets who write or have written poetry in their mother tongue while living far from their homeland. Through the readings of poems in two languages and discussion we shall tackle the special features of their poetry, the issue of cultural identity, and the common elements detected in both cultures. The event will be held in both Greek and Arabic. The translation of speeches and poems will be provided by Persa Koumoutsi (Greece), Khaled Raouf (Egypt).

Final Event Program

The event will be opened by the statement of the Secretary General for Public Diplomacy and Greeks Abroad of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prof. John Chrysoulakis whom we kindly thank for his support.

The event is coordinated by the director of K.EL.A.L.P. Mrs. Persa Koumoutsi, author and translator of Arabic literature.

CulturePolis – K.EL.A.L.P.: Meeting with the Corfu Reading Club

Continuing its fruitful collaboration with the Corfu Reading Club, Culturepolis held an online event (physical presence only of the Club members and CulturePolis executives) on Friday, 2 October 2020, at 20.00 at the Corfu Palace Hotel, a special event where its partner Mrs. Persa Koumoutsi, distinguished author and translator of Arabic literature presented her rich literary and translation work and discussed in particular her book “Alexandrian Voices on Lepsious Street” (Published by METAΙΧΜΙΟ) under publication and in Arabic language.

CulturePolis – K.EL.A.L.P.: Meeting with the Second Chance School of Corfu Prisons

Corfu, 1 October 2020

The meeting of the author and translator of Arabic literature, Persa Koumoutsi, with teachers and students of the Second Chance School of Corfu Prisons, was completed successfully, in the context of the official opening of the work/events of the Center of Greek and Arabic Literature and Culture-K.EL.A.L.P.

Mrs Koumoutsi spoke about the social role of literature, pointing out that interactivity composes one of its important elements while relying, among other things, on the otherness that has always aimed at understanding human behaviour, whatever its origin or condition. The meeting took place after the invitation of the director of the Second Chance School Mr. Kyriakos Kolesis and the teaching staff.

Afterwards, the School staff and the speaker had a working meeting with the President of CulturePolis Vasileios Laopodis, where they discussed ways to further strengthen the exemplary work of the school.

The need for dialogue and for an “opening” towards a socially, politically, culturally, and religiously different culture, has always been a matter of major importance that concerned human history. Every culture is connected to the core of the society in which it is developed. Every culture is connected to the core of the society in which it is developed. Nevertheless, no culture can evolve without communicating with others. 

The Center of Greek and Arabic Literature and Culture (K.EL.A.L.P.), a new autonomous initiative of CulturePolis in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University have the pleasure to invite you to the following online event, on the topic:

“The Role of Literary Translation in Promoting Intercultural Dialogue and the Understanding of the ‘Other’: The Case of Arabic Literature”

Greek Lindh Foundation Network Meeting

The annual meeting of the Anna Lindh Foundation’s national network was held in Thessaloniki on November 8-10, 2019. This meeting was attended by representatives of civil society organizations / members from all over Greece.

The CulturePolis founding member of the national network was represented by its President Dr. Β. Laopodi and Project Manager Ms. Constantina Karameri.
