In a few days’ time in Cyprus, as part of the new publishing programme by Armida Publications (available in Greece from mid-September),
*Dreams During the Period of Convalescence* (Arabic: *Ahlam Fatrat al-Naqaha*) by the Nobel Prize-winning Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz, which has been aptly translated into Greek as: Dreams of the Last Breath, is the final book by the great Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz, who remains to this day the only Arab winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. In essence, it is his swan song, written during a period of his life marked by mental and physical turmoil, following his serious injury and before his death. For this reason, scholars of his work classify it as a ‘book about death’. In it is condensed the very essence and culmination of his creative, social and personal life, his view of the world in which he lived, as well as the one he dreamt of in his youth, and, of course, his philosophy, all of which are superbly captured in short autobiographical, surrealist and genuinely poetic micro-stories.
