Kostas Konstantatos

Κostas Konstantatos was born in Athens in 1959 where he grew up and pursued studies in economics and music. Studied guitar for six years at the “Hellenic Conservatory of Greece” next to the soloist Gerasimos Miliaressis and was taught theory of music by the conductor Diamantis Diamantopoulos. Participated in the choir of the American College of Greece (1978-1981). Fom 1987 to 1997 withdrew temporarily from music and worked as an Iconographer, in Greece and Southern Italy, travelling in various regions of Calabria (Ιtaly), especially the Greek-speaking zone, where teaching Iconography in various seminars, organizing and participating in art exhibitions of religious painting. In 1997, decided to come back to music, and studied percussion with Nestoras Drougas and violin with Giannis Zevgolis (2000-2006). At the same time, he participated with Loukia Konstantatou, in various ensembles performing “classical Ottoman music” and Greek traditional-folk music from Asia Minor and other regions of the Greek territory. Also , participated in concerts and studio recordings, collaborating with the Byzantine choirs of Lykourgos Angelopoulos, Georgios Remoundos and Costas Angelidis. In 2004, together with Vangelis Papageorgiou and Anastasia Doulfi formed the band Encardia, which studies the musical tradition and culture of Southern Italy. Encardia has been perceived, since 2008, as part of the South Italian music scene. Up to now, the band has performed in more than 2,500 concerts and released six digital albums, working together with the most important representatives of the Greek and South Italian music scene. From 2012 till now, he has been volunteering as a music teacher, at an alternative therapy community “Paremvasi” which runs under the Centre for the Treatment of Addicted Persons – KETHEA. Throughout this “journey”, in 2007, it came out as a personal need, the initiative to start the “Vox et Sonis” program. At the end of 2018, his encounter with the flutist Stefanos Hatzianagnostou, led to the creation of the Alcedo Folk Band presenting a wide repertoire of world music within a modern and revealing perspective.
